Jack is then appointed acting Deputy Director of Intelligence, CIA, upon the terminal illness of Admiral James Greer, former DDI, and quickly gets in over his head due to his political naivete. The situation rapidly deteriorates when some of the presidents men convince the President to conduct covert actions against the cartel, in direct violation of congress. Felix Cortez, the security chief of Ernesto Escobeda, the “victim” of the missing money, is one of the cartel boss’s. Cortez tries to play both sides, appearing to inform Escobeda about the CIA’s involvement in the covert operations against him, while trying to orchestrate a coup to take over the cartel, with Cortez as it’s sole boss. James Cutter, the President’s National Security Advisor, makes his own deal with Cortez, with the Presidents knowledge, and halts communications to the covert troops still in Colombia, through the Deputy Director of Operations, CIA, Robert Ritter. Ryan ends up going to Colombia to rescue the covet ops troops with the help of field agent John Clark, but not before some fence mending between the two, being that Ritter blamed Ryan for the comm outage, with Clark’s men subsequently being captured by Cortez’s mercenaries.

Why do you think the film version veered away from the events that took place in the novella?

I agree–books are almost always better than the movie (except for "Forrest Gump"…) Think about the things that happen in the story "Apt Pupil". I don’t know how they could possibly show those things in a movie; I don’t know who could watch something like that, even in a fiction movie. Plus, the story wasn’t really long enough for a full-length film, was it?

Why doesn't redbox have the new movies tonight?
why wouldn’t redbox have Couple’s retreat and time travelers wife tonight anyone know? I stayed there until 12:15 there were some new movies but not the ones i wanted.

Maybe they’re all out of them. You can go redbox online and reserve them so no one else can pick them up. You can also see what other movies they have available before you get there.
Nico | Feb 09, 2010

I don’t think that they put in the movies until the day they come out, Because i’ve seen the red-box people putting in movies before. So I don’t think that they are available until they put them in there.
heather s | Feb 09, 2010

Wow, do you think they magically appear? They have workers that stock them in the morning.
Peach | Feb 09, 2010

Depending on your location Redbox usually stocks it early Monday morning for the Tuesday releases. Maybe try another one. I usually reserve them online to make sure they are there by 12am day of release if it’s a movie I really want to watch without having to rush early Tuesday morning. Good luck.
Island Princess | Feb 09, 2010

I know what you’re talking about. I waited until midnight to reserve a copy online like I’ve done 50 times before, but Couples Retreat was instantly "all checked out" whereas the other new releases were available and acting normal. I just got back from trying 3 Redboxes near my house early this morning and it is still saying that. There has to have been an issue because last night I even entered random zip codes and cities, and no matter where I looked, the entire nation was "all checked out" within seconds of midnight. There is obviously an issue, maybe the release date got pushed back or Redbox didn’t receive their distribution.

You’re not crazy, I know what you’re talking about. There is something amiss regarding Couples Retreat and Redbox.

[UPDATE]
Ah hah, turns out Universal (and Fox) are upset with the $1 rentals and are fighting back by not allowing Redbox to have their new releases until 30-45 days after release date. Redbox is fighting it which is likely why they optimistically listed it.
ampsoforange | Feb 09, 2010

No, it isn’t available yet. Redbox probably won’t have it until this weekend. Movie companies don’t like their low prices so they don’t allow redbox to release them right away. I emailed redbox about this with "the Hangover" and they said it wouldn’t be available until the weekend.
dr | Feb 09, 2010

That just means they haven’t put it in yet. Sometimes they never put certain movies in your redbox and you have to wait till someone returns it to yours. Or you can go to a redbox that has one.

Top five favorite scary movies? (recomendations)?
I’m addicted :3

I’m not picky…. last night I watched the Orphan and it was pretty good. I’ve watched a bunch of the older thrillers too (american werewolf in london, hitchcock’s movies like vertigo, rear window, the birds, etc.) so really anything is fine. If it deals with insanity or monsters it will probably interest me more than your run of the mill serial slasher.

Thanks a ton <33

Happy late halloween!

O.k. some of theses movies aren’t very scary but are a bit on the gory side just a fyi :-]

High Tension*
Inside*
Martyrs*
Drag Me To Hell
Evil Dead

*the 1st 3 are french films but are real good plus they are pretty gory! Just wanted to give you a heads up before you decided to watch them. The movies are a little scary but they will definitely have you jumping in your seat. Hope you like some of them.
